Trend Twelve Investment Portfolio

One of Jim’s most successful portfolios, the Trend 12 is managed by Easan Katir using trend analysis. The 12 stocks are invested on the basis of market trends. If stocks are falling the portfolio moves into cash (as of mid-September 2001 the portfolio was all in cash), and into stocks when stock prices are in a rising trend. This Portfolio resembles a money-market account in cash when the market is head down and an equity stock fund when the market is heading up. This allows the investor to realize stock gains and avoid the sharp drops in stock prices.

Why does it work so well? How does it beat the market? Here's a part of the secret: Studies have shown that with over 15 stocks a portfolio will have an 80 percent correlation with the market. With 30 stocks, it's 90 percent. By the time, you get a 60-stock portfolio (the typical mutual fund), it's going to match the market very closely. In other words, if you own too many, you are the market, and sometimes the market goes down...way down. This is called overdiversification...what managers tend to do when they don't know what to buy. That's one of the reasons why our portfolio has done so well. Of course no stock market investment is guaranteed, and past performance doesn’t necessarily predict future performance.

Account Information
The average size of a Trend 12 account is $100,000, but we offer a $50,000 minimum for our portfolio. There is no charge to invest or withdraw money, but we charge a managment fee of 0.75% per quarter. Discounts from these fees apply to over $250,000 in each account.

A major stock brokerage firm holds all of the accounts and your money is immediately available from this large discount broker. Investors receive quarterly statements and membership in the Portfolio Investment Club. The investors-only section on financialsavvy.com provides special deals, information and each week you'll receive a copy of the Financial Savvy Report. Your membership also includes an opportunity to talk with Jim about your personal finance.

The information is believed to be reliable, but we do not guarantee its accuracy or completeness, and past performance is not necessarily indicative of future results. The performance data represent a blend of client portfolios and model returns prior to inception of managed portfolios. The return and principal value of an investment will fluctuate so that an investor's portfolio, when redeemed, may be worth more or less than its original cost. These figures include reinvestment of all dividends and earnings and are gross of management fees. Past performance does not guarantee future results, so you should review an investment agreement to fully understand the risks involved prior to making an investment decision.
